Beer Trip | Radius Brewing Company in Emporia, Kansas

While in town visiting our good friends Kelly and Mason, we made sure to stop at Emporia staple, Radius Brewing Company! Having visited several times before, we’re excited to share that it never disappoints.

The hop-integrated logo is a neat one!

Located right in the heart of downtown Emporia, Radius is in a beautiful, old, brick building. Directly inside the doors you are greeted with the brewery in the middle of the room inside a full glass box - when it’s active, you can easily watch every step of the brewing process! We would consider Radius to be more of a restaurant than a standard brewery, so the place is filled with tables and chairs throughout.

Towards the back is a 10-person bar complete with several TVs, which seemed like the perfect place to catch a game. At the rear of the building they have a great covered patio and outdoor patio area - both a huge plus since the indoor tends to be quite busy.

Ample restaurant seating, both for small or large groups

The outdoor patio was empty on the VERY hot day we visited - but would be a great option!

The Beer

Radius doesn’t have a big brewing area, so they tend to keep 5 - 6 options on tap. They keep roughly half of their taps for flagships and then rotate the remainder, continually keeping new things on draft. Our most recent trip provided all light colored choices, including a wheat, a couple of pale ales, and an IPA; however, a porter and a brown ale also typically make the selection board. If flights are your thing, Radius has one of the coolest flight boards we have seen anywhere!

The beer flavor at Radius has always been solid with what we’ve tried. For having a limited beer menu, the brewers here do a good job of maintaining tastes that will appeal to most people. You won’t find the flavor-packed options that many places have, but rather more subtle tones based on their use of malts and hops.

The William Allen Wheat is a good example of the described above, with a nice graininess followed by a very sweet aftertaste. Our favorite on the latest stop was actually a double IPA, which is very rare for us to even try (IPAs aren’t typically our top style). The Diameter Double IPA wasn’t overly hoppy, but provided a rich, piney taste.

Lots of light, crisp beers on our recent visit

Food, Merch, & More

Serving as a restaurant first, the food here is truly one of our favorite places in town. Offering burgers, sandwiches, salads, pizza, steaks, and more, everyone can find something to enjoy. Our personal recommendation is the chicken fried chicken sandwich!

Delicious Italian and chicken fried chicken sandwiches

A mocktail mojito, perfect for Morgan who is now expecting!

While beer is the obvious choice of drink, Radius additionally has a full bar and a good mocktail selection for those seeking a non-alcoholic alternative. In addition to lunch and dinner, Radius also offers happy hour and brunch offerings - making it a perfect stop at nearly any time of day. The only downside? With great popularity can come long waits - so be prepared to wait a bit for a seat depending on when you go.

With great t-shirts, hats, and glassware, the merchandise area has quite a bit to choose from. You will certainly be drawn to the large frisbee selection as well, which makes sense with Emporia being one of the top disc golf locations in the entire country. Be sure to check it out!

Impressive collection of disc golf frisbees behind the bar!

Radius Brewing Company has so much to offer with both great food and great beer. Be sure to make a stop whether you are staying in Emporia or just passing through via I-35.

Cheers!
