Beer Trip: Palmetto Brewing Co. | Charleston, South Carolina
Morgan here! Our first out-of-state trip in 2022 was actually a girls’ trip, to Charleston, SC taken with my two sisters-in-law. Although a girls’ trip isn’t usually as brewery heavy as a trip with Chris would be, we still made a couple of stops. First up - Palmetto Brewing!
The Brewery
Palmetto is South Carolina’s oldest brewery since prohibition, which makes for some pretty neat history. Just a stone’s throw from downtown Charleston, Palmetto is outside of the hustle & bustle and has plenty of free parking directly outside.
The brewery itself is made up of an extremely large taproom and a smaller “speakeasy” area. Very neat décor throughout - just check out that beer bottle chandelier! All in all, this brewery was HOPPING (get it?) and definitely felt like the place to be on a Saturday afternoon - they even had live music!
The Beer
Palmetto featured a very large selection of brews, including flagship and rotating taps and seltzers. I hardly do flights anymore, but simply couldn’t help myself here - there were way too many I needed to try knowing that I may never be back!
Ultimately, I went with a small batch Raspberry Cobbler Sour, the Idle Speed, the Evening Joe Coffee Blonde, and the Peanut Butter Chocolate Time - which I rated on Untappd at a record 4.50 (you’ll learn over time that I’m a VERY harsh scorer)! The perfect beer for any peanut butter lover.
Ultimately my ratings here averaged out to 3.5 which, again, is quite high for me. I would have definitely spent more time at Palmetto if my girls’ trip allowed and would recommend the brews and atmosphere to anyone visiting Charleston.
Cheers!
