Beer Trip: No Name Brewing Company in Ellisville, Missouri

View of No Name looking in from Boardwalk Pizza

Nestled in the suburbs of St. Louis lies No Name Brewing Company. While on a work trip with only one free night to spare, Morgan was overwhelmed by the brewery options available in the area but became intrigued to stop at No Name after reading that it is the smallest commercial brewery in the United States! Despite being tiny, this brewery has a lot to offer and we’re so glad we stopped in.

The Brewery

If you weren’t looking closely, you might miss the brewery altogether!

Located in a strip mall attached to Boardwalk Pizza, the brewery itself is rather inconspicuous as it doesn’t even have permanent signage - but once you step inside, you find that this place is super modern and well-done. There are 7 seats at the wooden oak bar top and 3 other small tables. Though the brewery does have its own entrance, it also fully opens up via a shared wall to the neighboring pizza joint.

Though you couldn’t meet a ton of people here, you can certainly still meet up with a small group of friends. There are two TVs present that were playing hockey during our visit (a St. Louis favorite) and it seemed that many may wander in to watch a match.

In talking with the bartender he shared that No Name opened in December 2022 - for only one year in business, they have an impressive operation!

The Beer

For a tiny brewery that uses a 1BBL system, we were impressed by the diversity of their 7 beers on tap: a winter ale, Irish ale, hazy pale ale, farmhouse ale, Oktoberfest, blonde ale, and a wheat. The Voss Kveik farmhouse ale is their only flagship (and coincidentally their most popular, according to their staff), but the other 6 beers rotate out on a consistent basis. The Voss Kveik was described as having “hints of hay" in the flavor. Though this sounded strange, we totally got the same thing when taking a sip.

We opted for a flight of four beers and our favorite was the Lord Krampus winter ale. This beer was brewed for the holiday season and tasted just like Christmas in a glass! With great ginger notes, this brew would be perfect for fans of a classic Moscow Mule.

Food, Merch, & More

No Name is the perfect place to grab a bite to eat because of its shared business model with Boardwalk Pizza. Boardwalk serves pizza, salads, sandwiches, wings, and more. On our visit, we tried the chicken Cesar club sandwich and it was delicious. An unanticipated yet welcomed surprise was when the bartender brought out two fresh homemade chocolate chip cookies for dessert - on the house!

Turns out beer tastes good with chocolate chip cookies!

If you’re not into craft beer, No Name also features wine, cocktails, and other big-name brews like Yuengling.

There isn’t much merchandise available for purchase, but you can at least walk out with a nice sticker featuring their logo or fill up a growler. The “NN” standing for No Name looks like a hop that the bartender joked is often referred to as “Hoptimus Prime.”

Cheers!
