Beer Trip: Strawberry Hill Brewing Company in Kansas City, Kansas

For years, there was next to nothing in the realm of breweries on the Kansas side of Kansas City, until Strawberry Hill Brewing Company came along in 2024. Located in the charming Strawberry Hill district, this place has been the perfect addition to the neighborhood with top-notch beer offerings and friendly team members.

Such a neat space

The Brewery

Strawberry Hill gets its namesake from the Kansas City region it sits within, the Strawberry Hill District. The place opened in the fall of 2024 when 4 couples came together and decided that this part of town was lacking a craft beer scene. They procured an old brick building right in the heart of downtown, and completely transformed the inside to include a 9-person bar and a small brewing operation in the back. While the space is small with only about 10 tables, the intimate space gives it the feeling of a hometown bar. The bartenders do a great job of mingling with the patrons, and you could tell there were plenty of regulars.

It was fun seeing some of the saucers on the ceiling from the Flying Saucer. #RIP #IYKYK

The Beer

One of the yummiest and most diverse flights we’ve had in a while!

You will find a nice lineup of 10 different brews to choose from at Strawberry Hill. They maintain 6 flagship options and then rotate the remaining 4 to keep the menu changing. Their signature beers consist of a cream ale, Bramber (a cross between a brown and an amber), Irish red, stout, IPA, and a Berlinerweiss. We found it unique that, on our visit, two of the rotators were barrel-aged offerings. Either the brewer really likes them, or they must sell out quickly. Unfortunately, we had a decent drive after our stop here, so we opted out of the higher ABV selections.

Morgan opted for a flight here, while Chris got his normal pints. We were able to try a good portion of the menu, and everything was of great quality. One to note was the Long Road Ahead, which is their oatmeal stout. This one is roasty with a rich creaminess that one would expect of a beer of this style; however, the finish was quite bitter. The other brew worth a mention is the Bär. This Berlinerweiss is light, tart, and has a bready taste mixed in. They even have flavored syrups to mix in to give it a completely different taste. We saw tons of people drinking green beer, so we joined in trying the Woodruff version, and it was fantastic.

The woodruff Bar!

Food, Merch, & More

In addition to beer, Strawberry Hill has a full bar menu with limited spirit selections, wine, and cider. They are also one of the few breweries in town that make beer cocktails using one of their brews. By far the coolest thing on their “extras” menu is the kids’ box. This Happy Meal-style box is available for purchase and includes a Capri Sun, a bag of Goldfish, a strawberry sucker, small dinosaur figurines, and a crayon coloring kit, which would be perfect to keep your kiddo entertained. The merchandise selection is quite limited, with only a single t-shirt available on our visit. Unfortunately for us, they literally ran out of brewery stickers, selling their last one to the person right ahead of us in line.

While Strawberry Hill doesn’t have the space to offer a full food menu, what they do have is one of Kansas City’s best BBQ places directly across the street in Slap’s BBQ. This place does tons of business, and there were actually a lot of people who saw the BBQ line, placed a to-go order, and then came to the brewery to enjoy a brew until their food was ready. That certainly seemed like the way to go!

While many other breweries get the notoriety around the Kansas City area, Strawberry Hill Brewing Company has found its niche within the community. We certainly enjoyed our visit and will be recommending it to others. Until next time!

Cheers!
